Emergency Planning Philosophy
As a part of the University’s responsibility of ensuring a safe environment for our faculty, staff and students, EH&S has been active in the development and implementation of departmental emergency plans. Emergency planning, not a new concept, develops procedures and capabilities for handling hazards resulting from man-made or natural causes. The most important part of the emergency planning process is the emergency action plan, consisting of four components: assessment, preparedness, response, and recovery. As for any business, it is necessary to have a well thought out business plan, so it is that every department and administrative unit should have a well thought out emergency plan to ensure that an emergency situation can be managed in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The goal of the departmental emergency planning program is to preserve life and property assets. An effective emergency plan will ensure that an emergency can be handled with the resources available and minimize the impact of the situation to the operations of the department. By participating in the UNR department emergency plans, each of us will be achieving life safety skills that can be utilized in our professional lives and at home.
